Curtiss
Maldoon (Dave Curtiss and Clive Maldoon) issued two (now very
rare) albums, and the strength of the writing remains such that
Madonna has covered one of their songs, the excellent "Sepheryn"
which, retitled "Ray Of Light", gave her a huge hit single. Dave
Curtiss had been an early candidate for Deep Purple's first line-up,
a story explained in the detailed sleeve notes. The CD features
the best of the two albums, plus rare singles and unissued material.

The
Japanese album captured the band at the very moment of their inception,
and remains one of their best recordings. Released only in Japan,
it nevertheless set the stage for Gillan's worldwide success during
the early eighties. It first appeared on CD in 1993 on RPM. Deleted for some time,
the material has now been reissued on the new Purple Record label.
