Purple Records has concentrated on the compact disc format, but issued their first vinyl pressing in early 2008. As collectors ourselves we recognise the appeal of the format in packaging terms as well as the preference of some audiophiles. It was well received and led to plans for further pressings. Because relatively few shops stock vinyl and sales are smaller than CD, pressings have to be limited because it is too costly to press small reruns. Similarly because a lot of stores don't look after vinyl and we cannot afford lots of damaged return stock, sales in Europe are also restricted. Although titles do sell out from the warehouse fairly quickly, specialist retailers do keep the stock for longer. We recommend trying DPASMailorder first as we supply them direct. Catalogue numbers are a continuation of the original label sequence from the 1970s.

Mastered at Abbey Road in London, engineer Peter Mew.

Live In London was recorded on Deep Purple Mk 3’s only British tour, at the Gaumont State, Kilburn, North London, on May 22. 1974, towards the end of what had been a very successful tour, by the BBC. This was later edited for broadcast and in 1982 issued by EMI on a single vinyl album.

In 2007 it was finally issued in an upgraded forma by EMI on a 2CD set, with all edits restored, much restoration work and some remixing. EMI did not want to do a vinyl pressing , so this has been done by Purple Records. This new vinyl pressing is the complete show and has been fully restored from the broadcast tapes by EMI at Abbey Road in London, and is issued under exclusive license in a very limited edition. This comprises a double album in 180 gsm virgin vinyl German pressing, with special labels and inner bags, in a gatefold sleeve. The inner bags have a full history, photographs and memorabilia.
